Two Storage Solutions for Medical Gurneys and Hospital Beds
Storing broken medical gurneys and hospital beds while they are waiting to be repaired requires a lot of room and floor space in a hospital. In a typical hospital with 500 beds, between 35-50 of the beds are broken and waiting for repair. Most of the time, the medical gurneys and beds are lined throughout hallways because there is a shortage of storage floor space for them. While horizontal floor space isn’t available, there is usually an abundance of vertical space available. Option 1: How the Manual Medical Gurney Lift Works
Depending on your ceiling height, you can store 2 or 3 beds in the same footprint as one bed. We can store 3 beds in a space with 9 foot ceilings and 2 beds in a space with an 8 foot to 8 foot 6 inch ceiling. The Medical Gurney Lifts mentioned above maintain a 18″ clearance between the beds and the ceiling to meet IFC 315.1.2 International Fire Code requirements. To load gurneys or hospital beds into the lift, simply roll a bed onto the storage platform from the front of the unit. The gurney lift platforms are 9′-8″ wide by 5′-1″ deep and will nest inside of each other when empty (overall outside footprint dimensions are 10′ wide x 5′-4″ deep). The Medical Gurney Lift is operated by a hand crank so that no electricity or motors are needed. In addition to beds and gurneys, the trays can store other medical equipment like wheelchairs and IV poles if needed. The lift is constructed of heavy gauge steel and can easily raise 1,000 pounds. While it stands on the floor, it can also be bolted down if necessary.

Option 2: How the Push Button Vertically Stacked Hospital Bed Racks Work
Vertically Stacked Hospital Bed Racks have a footprint a little bigger than a single hospital bed. The beds are stacked on top of each other all the way up to the ceiling to conserve floor space. Vertically Stacked Hospital Bed Racks are automated using a push button to raise and lower beds. To use the Vertically Stacked Hospital Bed Racks, position the first bed onto the lift and push the button to raise it up. This will then open up the space underneath for the next bed. And all you need to do from there is repeat this process until all the beds are in the lift.
Vertically Stacked Hospital Bed Racks are available in a standard width of 4′-4 1/2″ and depth of 8′-7″. There are three different heights available to facilitate storing multiple beds: 3 bed storage lift at 8′ high; 4 bed storage lift at 10′-2 1/2″ high; and 5 bed storage lift at 12′-5 1/2″ high.
