What is a Mezzanine Lift?

Vertical Lift DumbwaiterMezzanine lifts are industrial lifting equipment used vertically to transport materials and equipment between two or more levels. You may also hear them called several names, including vertical reciprocating conveyors, vertical material lifts, material elevators, freight elevators, and dumbwaiters.

It’s important to note that mezzanine lifts are not classified as elevators since they transport materials only. Because they cannot carry people, mezzanine lifts do not have to adhere to the same strict safety standards as elevators and thus cost less to install and maintain.

Mezzanine Lift Applications

Mezzanine lifts are commonly used in warehouses and distribution centers to transport equipment and materials from one level to another storage level. They can also move products from the ground level to a mezzanine storage platform.

Manufacturing facilities also use industrial mezzanine lifts to transport raw materials, finished products, and equipment between different production levels. They can help streamline material handling and improve overall efficiency. Other applications include retail stores, supermarkets, automotive dealerships, airports, restaurants, breweries, and wineries.

Types of Mezzanine Lifts

Mezzanine lifts can be either hydraulic or mechanical. Hydraulic mezzanine lifts are less expensive at the outset, but they can only move between two levels and have a weight capacity of no more than 6,000 pounds. Mechanical lifts are larger, more durable, more efficient, can move between three or more levels, and require less maintenance.

We offer five types of mechanical mezzanine lifts:

  • Box lift: A low-cost, light-duty lift with a 500-pound lifting capacity and a travel height of up to 16 feet.
  • Pallet master lift: An economical medium-duty lift with a 5,000-pound lifting capacity and a travel height of up to 36 feet.
  • Straddle lift: An adaptable two-post lift with a 6,000-pound lifting capacity and a travel height of up to 40 feet.
  • Cantilever lift: A versatile lift that allows loading from three sides, with a 5,000-pound lifting capacity and a travel height of up to 40 feet.
  • Four-post lift: A heavy-duty lift with a 30,000-pound lifting capacity has a travel height of up to 60 feet.

“The team at Southwest Solutions were nothing short of fantastic. First meeting with Craig, I received a customized design, in person, based on my office needs while still maintaining an efficient layout and being cost effective. Craig explained everything clearly, allowing me to understand that as modular mill-work, I would be able to move it if I ever changed offices, but without the added sales pressure to immediately make a decision. Once I had decided, I worked with Chris who assisted in picking out the finishes and scheduling the delivery and installation. The professionalism of Craig and Chris spoke volumes and I would highly recommend anyone looking to transform or fit-out an office to contact Southwest Solutions.”
